What exactly do you want?

Do you know what you want out of life, out of your current job, where you want to take your family, etc?

You must start off with small goals and then break them down into smaller ones.

We are all given the same amount of time in life. We decide what to do with it.

Let me tell you a personal story:

When I was in 10th grade in Orem Utah, I was taking an autoshop class. I had a '71 Pontiac Grand Prix, with a 400 V8 engine - very big, very heavy and VERY fast. In fact until a friend showed me how to do donuts on the cement, I thought it was a very boring car. However it all changed when we went for a ride one day and he showed us this hidden capability. From that moment, I decided to fix the car up - ie: tune it up, fix the dents and eventually paint it.

I drove it to autoshop with the aspirations of making this car into a real musclecar -inside and out. After the initial excitement of getting it to the shop, I found out there was a lot of time and money involved.

I thought knew what I wanted but when I realized the time and cost required, I decided that I wanted to spend my time on more productive things.

At other times, I have known exactly what I wanted and knew I would get it. About a year and a half ago, I was walking into a gym to do my workout. As I walked across the parking lot, an inspiring thought passed across my mind. I had been thinking about living intentionally and wanted to try an experiment. I decided at that moment that I would meet someone in the gym that night that would either help me or I would help them advance their life. I was absolutely sure it would happen.

The interesting thing is I usually do not talk to others when I work out. I like to get my woirkouts done as quickly as possible so I can get it done quickly. But something magical happened inside of me. Because I believed it would happen, I expected it would happen and it did!

With each person I passed, I wondered if they were the one I was going to help or receive help from. In fact, I found my workout so much more enjoyable because I enjoyed the persence of other people. I found myself greeting others, smiling at them, and got in several meaning full conversations with the people around me. As my workout progressed, I asked a guy how to work out a certain muscle group. He showed me a great excercise that helped me. I spotted him on a few reps and we both went away with a new friend and new knowledge.

It was actually one of the most productive workouts I had ever done... because I expected it to be!

Do you have a situation where you expected something to be great and it turned out exactly how you expected it to be?
